Fire Restoration in a Dallas Kitchen
As you can see in the Before Photo, this customer in Dallas learned quickly how destructive grease fires could be for their kitchen and the rest of the property. When these flames expand fast through the house, as they did in this case, many elements in the kitchen were destroyed or heavily damaged by burning and protein residues. When our SERVPRO team responded to this emergency, we came upon a house already suffering massive destruction from the rapidly spreading disaster starting on the stovetop. Our professionals would take several steps to overcome fire and smoke damage and make the incident “Like it never even happened.”
Content Relocation and Bulk Material Removal
While much of the kitchen in this Dallas home was a loss, adjacent rooms and areas could still benefit from content relocation. Because soot and smoke damage was such a fast-spreading concern, moving personal belongings, furniture, and fabrics to a safe area of the property prevented costlier restoration and deodorization.
Removing debris and damaged bulk materials heaped in the affected areas of the property helped reduce the spread and severity of soot concentrations or smoke odors. Removing this debris also allows the estimation and restoration plan our team develops to be more thorough and accurate with more of the building materials and structural elements exposed.
Controlled Demolition for Fire Damaged Homes in Dallas
Removing damaged fixtures and shelving from the kitchen began to prepare the property for the cleaning and restoration to come. As you can see in the Before Photo, much of the ceiling was destroyed by the flames, but our team must still dress up these joists and supports by removing the tatters of insulation and drywall to provide a clean surface to reattach new drywall materials.
Soot and Smoke Damage Cleanup Elsewhere in the House
While the kitchen was set to be nearly completely reconstructed and repaired, the rest of the property suffered varying degrees of superficial damages. Circulating soot particles impacted wall surfaces and fixtures, which our SERVPRO team cleaned to reduce any tear-out or reconstruction beyond where it was already needed. Chemical sponges and various solvents dissolve protein residues and prevent underlying substrates from ruin.
Fire Damage Repairs Needed After Smoke Remediation
With this high-heat fire situation, the flames tore through the attic space, roof underlayment materials, and ultimately through the house’s exterior envelope. Temporary tarps were placed to ensure water damage did not worsen the situation in the Dallas house while damage claim approval was underway to approve the full-scale reconstruction of the roof required.
A Full-Service Solution for Reconstruction
To bring the property to its appearance in the After Photo, our professionals had to reinstall the entire ceiling in the kitchen and replace all of the cabinets, countertops, and appliances. This customer was happy to find that our SERVPRO team could help them through nearly every facet of restoration and reconstruction, including mediating the damage claim process with the insurance adjusters and meeting the budget and aesthetic wishes of the customer during build-back.
